Handcraft Specialist Teacher

This position is a part time position (0.68) commencing 31st January, 2022. 

Cairns Hinterland Steiner School is seeking a Handcraft Specialist Teacher to implement the curriculum as outlined by the School in accordance with the Australian Steiner Curriculum Framework from Class one upwards. In doing so, the Handcraft Specialist teacher is expected to work in close cooperation with class teachers and guardians as part of the College of Teachers and under guidance from the school’s values, policies and procedures. 

The aim of the Handcraft program is to immerse students in approaching subjects through the realm of handcrafts, imagination and sustainable practices, seeking to find fresh connections with his/her subject matter.

The Handcraft Specialist Teacher has overall responsibility for planning, delivery and assessment of the Handcraft Program for each year level across the whole school. 

This is an exciting opportunity for a teacher who is looking to specialise and work across our small School using the integrated approach and curriculum of Steiner education. 

The role requirements are:

  • Fully registered Teacher (Queensland)
  • Teach with an anthroposophical approach to each child’s developmental needs and welfare in mind 
  • Be committed to ongoing individual and collaborative professional development, including Steiner Education
  • Demonstrate high level written and verbal communication skills
  • Be responsible for maintaining positive relationships, with colleagues, parents/carers and participate actively in the life of the school community
  • Previous experience in delivering a Steiner Handcraft programme essential 
  • Exemplary skills in a wide range of handwork and craft disciplines

Kindergarten Assistant

Temporary part-time contract

This position is a 0.8 FTE position commencing 31 January 2022 to 31 March 2022 (term 1) with the possibility of an extension.

The position
The position involves supporting the teacher in the implementation, and assessment of a quality educational programme for all children in the Lilly Pilly kindergarten year.  All programmes are grounded solidly in the philosophy and principles of Steiner Education and all Early Childhood staff must be cognizant of the role of parents / guardians hold in their child's education.

We are seeking someone with exemplary qualities to fill this position. The successful applicant will ideally have an understanding of Steiner pedagogy and philosophy or a willingness to learn, along with a commitment to professionalism in their work.

The role requirements are:

- Minimum Certificate III ECEC qualifications
- Prepared to work with an anthroposophical approach to each child’s developmental needs and welfare in mind and support the teacher implementing a quality Steiner curriculum.
- Committed to ongoing individual and collaborative professional development in Early Childhood Education, including Steiner Education
- Responsible for maintaining positive relationships with colleagues and participate actively in the life of the school community
- Demonstrated understanding of NQF and EYLF

Head Of School - Principal

Cairns Hinterland Steiner School (CHSS) is an independent school offering K-12 education by 2023. We offer a Steiner education in a beautiful natural rainforest setting. CHSS is a member of Steiner Education Australia and Independent Schools Queensland. 

CHSS is seeking an experienced cultural leader to support the transformation of the School to realise it’s vision, mentor and support our next generation of Steiner leaders, and establish a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement embedded in anthroposophy. 

The Head of School will be responsible to the School’s Board of Directors for the day to day running of the School. They will work with the Senior Leadership Team and College of Teachers to manage the content, quality and delivery of the educational program, and be supported by the business and administrative realms. The position is a full-time position with yearly tracking against Key Performance Indicators and with remuneration reflecting the experience of the successful applicant.
